Best recipe for catfish?

I live in PA and like to fish the susquehanna river. There are some huge cats in there and the biggest I've seen was 140 pounds. It's my turn to try and land a monster or two. My question is just what the title says. What is the best recipe for cats? Homemade or store bought?Best recipe for catfish?
hey there, the store bought baits are pretty good if you are wanting to catch some regular sized cats but if you are wanting to go after the monstors, i would suggest to use live bait or either cut bait. if you can catch you up a few blue gill, bream, shel crackers, fish of that nature and use them as bait with them floppin on the bottom will be your best bet. if you are not wanting to use cut bait or live bait, i would suggest to go to your local butcher or meat department at a local store and ask if you could get a bag of chiken or turkey jibblets. it is all the guts and other what nots pulled out of the chicken. the intestines work well too. get all that stuff and chop it up really fine and let it set out in the sun in a covered bucket or closed bowl and let it cook for a few days. after that get you a towel and wrap you nose and mouth and then open up the bucket or bowl. it is gonna be nasty so dont puke. you need to make you a lil bag out of some panty hose and then add the chicken guts to your bag. make up a few bags and put them back into the bowl until you are ready to fish. you can make up the bags and and guts before you let them cook in the sun. when you are ready to fish do what ever you are wanting to do with your line and weights but before you tie on your hook (((trebble hook))) take your line and tie your line to the bag. you dont have to do a fancy knot just something good and tight and then tie on your hook right below your bag and then toss out and wait for the monstors to hook up to your line.

in my opinion i would recommend using a slip weight rig to go after the cats. man i hope this helps you out a bit good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experienceBest recipe for catfish?
Try adding a little basil to the breading, I use a southern recipe for the breading, one part flour to 4 parts cornmeal. Add basil to the breading and fry it without any egg prep. The meal will stick to the catfish and will stick during cooking. Add the basil to the hushpuppies as well, it makes them ssoooooo good. If you dont like it than it ok
I think simple is better. I just use salt, pepper, and flour, fry it in oil, and there you have it. Hushpuppies are great to go along with a fish fry, but that's something I normally only found down south, not too much of a northern thing, but if you try it, you might actually like it.
gizzard shad or river herring. fresh. chunks, slabs or whole. even alive. big ones. big bait for big cats. big blues and flatheads are fish eaters. and these listed are among their favorites. flatheads prefer live bait while blues will take fresh bloody chunks. try in the deepest holes just below dams.
Usebait shrimp or chicken or beef livers. I have had my best luck on cats with large bait shrimp or cutbait shad. For the liver you want to use a descent size treble hook to hold it on. Or use panty hose to hold on a single hook. Use some sardine oil on large night crawlers.
